Rhode Island Micro Wedding

Oh 2020, what a year you had been.

On March 14, 2020, the entire world came to a screeching halt. I found myself staring at my 2020 calendar, thinking to myself, “all my weddings are going to be canceled!!". (Insert tears and panic.)

I slowly made my way down the list of upcoming weddings. First up, May 02, 2020 - Erin & Andrew at Brazos Hall.

Doing my very best to stay positive and optimistic, I emailed Erin.

“Hi Erin,

I hope you and Andrew are doing alright during this difficult time. I just wanted to touch base to let you both know I still want to photograph your wedding!”…

At that time, we thought their wedding would still take place on May 02, 2020. It did not. They moved their date to August 15, 2020 only to postpone again.

Then in November, I received an email from Erin letting me know they had decided to have their wedding in Rhode Island on December 05, 2020.

Why Rhode Island? Andrew’s family is from Connecticut so moving the wedding closer to CT allowed them to attend.

With travel restrictions still in place, I had to show a negative COVID-19 test result upon arrival to Rhode Island or quarantine for 14 days. Luckily, with Curative Rapid testing, I was able to get two negative tests results before my trip.

Then on December 03, 2020, I boarded a Southwest Airlines flight to Providence, RI.

From Providence, I drove to Little Compton, Rhode Island which is a sleepy, ocean front town with all the makings of a Stephen King novel. Christmas trees lights shined from the front windows, Black Lives Matter signs sprinkled the yards and red heart signs also dotted the lawns to honor the frontline workers.

Shortly after 11pm, I checked into my Air Bnb, Home by the Sea. I was so excited to have coffee the next morning and explore Little Compton before the rehearsal dinner.

The next day was the wedding day!

After looking at the weather reports, and with the impending Nor'Easter, we knew 2020 had thrown us another curve ball, but we made the best of it!

Family and friends stepped in to help get the house ready for the wedding. From vacuuming, to moving furniture, each person lent a helping hand.

And just before sunset, during the rain, sleet and snow, Erin and Andrew were finally married.

Their wedding was the perfect way to say goodbye to 2020. I’m optimistic for 2021 and grateful to all my clients that make it possible for me to do what I love.

Cheers to 2021!!
