6 Amazing Features Of The Martindale Schoolhouse: A Unique Wedding Venue

After This, You’re Going To Love The Martindale Schoolhouse

Nestled in the historic town of Martindale, just south of Austin, you'll find a wedding venue like no other. Imagine getting married in an old schoolhouse surrounded by historical Texas town charm.

Where on earth am I talking about?

The Martindale Schoolhouse, of course!

This event venue is located in Martindale, TX. Never heard of it? It's between Austin and San Antonio, near San Marcos, making it a great spot for weddings without the Austin chaos.

The historic Martindale Schoolhouse is not your typical wedding venue but in all of the coolest ways. It offers accommodations, a reception space, parking, small-town vibes, and a full kitchen for caterers!

Plus, the reception hall is the former gymnasium, making it easily one of the most unique reception spaces in Texas.

So, let's go over some features of the wedding venue that I think will convince you that this is your dream venue!

About The Martindale Schoolhouse

Constructed in 1921, the original school hosted bright, curious minds until 1968. Unfortunately, the growth of San Marcos meant the town of Martindale, TX, began to shrink, letting the school grounds languish.

According to Texas Highways Magazine, between 1968 and 2017, when it was bought by the current owners, the Martindale Schoolhouse was home to an antique mall, an auto shop, and even a private residence.

It's been a part of Martindale for decades, and when you're on the property, you can feel the history.

In 2017, the current owners, Craig and Wendi Foster, bought the schoolhouse and decided to continue serving the town by hosting events of all kinds. In 2018, the Martindale Schoolhouse was launched as a wedding venue!

It's now an official Texas historical landmark, so when you have your special event here, you're a real part of Texas history!

Address

You can find the Martindale Schoolhouse located at 101 Lockhart St, Martindale, TX 78655

The 6 Best Features Of The Martindale Schoolhouse

Okay, this is going to be nearly impossible to describe because you need to see the venue to truly understand how special it is.

But I'm going to try and narrow it down.

Great Location

Near San Marcos River. If you're looking to have a relaxing but adventurous wedding weekend, this venue is the perfect place for this!

Your guests coming in from out of town might be looking for some outdoor excursions so they can take a short walk to the river or take a floaty for an afternoon.

A Cool Place To Stay

Outside of Austin, TX, it can be difficult to find a place for out-of-town guests to stay. But your wedding weekend can turn into one of those weekend getaways that will have all of your friends and family raving!

The venue is capable of hosting 14 overnight guests! This is especially awesome if you're hosting a micro wedding!

Plus, the San Marcos River is nearby, making every afternoon perfect!

Eye-Catching Interior Design

When I visit the schoolhouse, I'm always caught up in the unique interior design. Craig and Wendi definitely put a good amount of thought into the eclectic, vintage vibe each space has.

From the collection of iconic records in the main room to the five bedrooms, the carefully curated decor gives such a relaxing energy, sure to calm any wedding day stress.

It also contains some of the original components from the school, but don't worry—you won't feel like you're having a wedding in afternoon detention!

A Separate Catering Kitchen

What used to be the Martindale Schoolhouse cafeteria is now a lovely kitchen that will make your caterer sigh in relief. Everything they could need to prepare your wedding dinner will be readily available!

All One Price

While you'll need to reach out to Craig and Wendi about current pricing, they keep it a flat fee, which includes:

  • Venue tours on Thursdays

  • Accommodations for up to 14 people

  • The setup and breakdown of tables and chairs

  • The whole weekend is yours!

  • Fully modernized cafeteria, perfect for catering

Dynamic Hosting Capabilities

The Martindale Schoolhouse is perfect for both large and small weddings, even micro weddings with fifty people or less. You can get married in the courtyard or social hall.

I know it might seem like the social hall might be too big for a smaller guest count, but I promise it won't be!

Still not sure? Don't worry—it has multiple seating areas and one is sure to be your Goldilocks!

The Martindale Social Hall

Right next to the Martindale Schoolhouse is the Martindale Social Hall. What used to be the original school gymnasium is now an event hall capable of hosting wedding receptions for around 175 guests! To this day, the social hall will host special events with live music and yoga retreats.

Be sure to keep in mind that this extremely unique hall lacks a roof. The benefit? The social hall offers an unfettered view of the stars and sky. If you've dreamed of getting married under the stars, then you'll love the social hall.

This is a really, really unique space, with a set of old lockers, a sink, and even the old stage from way back when!

Any kind of special event will be sure to keep your friends and family talking about it for years to come.
