Getting Married in Lockhart, Texas: Small-Town Charm, Big Wedding Magic

So You’re Thinking About Getting Married in Lockhart?

Hey y’all - if you’ve ever dreamed of saying “I do” in a small Texas town filled with history, heart, and really, really good brisket, then Lockhart might just be your perfect match. It's where vintage charm meets creative energy, and it’s one of my favorite places to photograph weddings.

I had the absolute joy of photographing Jessica and Brad’s intimate courthouse ceremony here recently - and let me tell you, Lockhart totally delivered. These two live in Dallas and had already chosen the Caldwell County Courthouse for their ceremony, but once we started chatting, I couldn’t help but gush about all the amazing locally owned businesses nearby. Jessica had no idea Lockhart had so much more to offer. After hearing more, she decided to make the most of their wedding day right here in town. (Spoiler: it absolutely lived up to the hype!)

Why Couples Are Choosing Lockhart for Their Wedding Day

The Prettiest Courthouse in Texas (Yes, Really)

At the heart of Lockhart is the Caldwell County Courthouse, a total showstopper with its red brick, Romanesque Revival architecture, and grand clock tower. It makes such a romantic backdrop - whether you’re doing a full ceremony or just sneaking in dreamy portraits. Jessica and Brad exchanged vows here with just a few close loved ones, and it couldn’t have been sweeter.

A Food Scene Worth Planning Around

Lockhart is famous for its BBQ (we’re talking legendary spots like Kreuz Market, Black’s, and Smitty’s), and incorporating it into your wedding weekend is practically a rite of passage. But this town is more than just the BBQ Capital of Texas - it’s also home to some amazing new restaurants that are perfect for intimate receptions or welcome dinners.

When Jessica hadn’t yet chosen a spot for dinner, I recommended Commerce Café, a stylish spot right on the square with ties to Austin fave - Foreign & Domestic. It ended up being perfect for their cozy post-ceremony dinner with friends.

Airbnbs That Feel Like Home

Lockhart’s got no shortage of charming, Insta-worthy Airbnbs - from modern farmhouses to quirky bungalows. Whether you’re getting ready, hosting family, or planning a backyard celebration, these rentals feel personal and laid-back.

Jessica and Brad had originally booked an Airbnb in Wimberley, and unfortunately couldn’t cancel in time - but after learning more about everything Lockhart has to offer, Jessica told me she definitely would have stayed here if she could’ve. The good news? They still spent the day exploring and celebrating in town, and fell in love with the charm and hospitality Lockhart is known for.

A Laid-Back Town With Heart

One of the best things about Lockhart? The people. This town is warm, welcoming, and just the right mix of small-town charm and creativity. As a Lockhart wedding photographer, it’s always such a joy to introduce couples to hidden gems. After the ceremony, we swung by The Case Room for a celebratory glass of champagne - thanks to Jen from Fiddler’s Green for hosting us so warmly. It’s the kind of experience you just don’t get everywhere, and it made their day feel extra special.

Things to Know Before You Book

  • Weekend Events Can Fill Up Downtown - Check the Lockhart event calendar before choosing your date. The square hosts some fun festivals (like the Chisholm Trail Roundup), but it can get busy - so plan accordingly if you want a quiet ceremony or easy parking.

  • Courthouse Ceremony Details - If you’re dreaming of a courthouse wedding, reach out ahead of time for scheduling, rules, and any required paperwork. Pro tip: weekday mornings are usually quietest.

  • Vendor Support - While Lockhart has a growing wedding scene, many vendors come in from Austin or San Marcos. That said, more and more vendors are falling in love with this town (like I did!) and are excited to work here.
